Jota Morelli was born in Venado Tuerto (Santa Fe, Argentina). Jota began playing drums at the age of 10, studying piano from Norberto J. Morelli and drums with Carlos Riganti and Alex Sanguinetti. At the age of 20, Jota moved to Buenos Aires and a couple of years later he came to the attention of Oscar Mediavilla who hired him as the drummer for La Torre, featuring the Famous Singer Patricia Sosa. During his time with La Torre, Jota recorded three albums and toured extensively throughout Argentina.

After leaving La Torre in 1985, Jota relocated to NYC, where he took the first steps toward working in North America. Before, after and during his time in NYC, Jota was the drummer for the great fusion band "Madre Atomica" Featuring Mono Fontana, Guillermo Vadala and Lito Epumer, recording the album, "Madre Atomica" with them in 1986 and later founding the music school "Musiquarium" in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Following his time in New York City, Jota started working in the studio and on the road with very important Argentinean acts like: Riff (Pappo, Jaf and Vitico), Lito Vitale Cuarteto, Pedro Aznar (Ex Pat Metheny Group), recording the Album "Azul 20", Juan Carlos Baglietto, Ruben Goldin, Metropolis, Viuda e hijas de Rock'en Roll and Fito Paez. In 1986, Jota recorded and toured with Lito Vitale.

Following Lito Vitale, in 1987 he became the drummer for the legendary pop Artist Luis Alberto Spinetta recording three albums and touring extensively throughout Latin America between 1987 and 1992. One highlight being an appearance at UCLA's Wadsworth Theatre. On a break from his duties, with LUIS ALBERTO SPINETTA en 1989, Jota toured throughout Venezuela with Argentina Rock Star FITO PAEZ. From 1993 to 1997, Jota recorded three albums with Diego Torres, the first two going gold in Latin America. While with Diego Torres, Jota was involved in several side projects, including recording and touring with Seru Giran Guitarrist DAVID LEBON in 1993 and 1994; performing in a trio with bass player Javier Malosetti and keyboardist Mono Fontana, and playing with Famed Luis Salinas. Also he recorded with virtuoso guitar player "Sarten Asaresi" who was his mentor.

After leaving his duties with Diego Torres in 1997, Jota Moved to Los Angeles, where he started playing with the band "Bandidos de Amor" and recorded two albums with them. In December of 1997, Jota toured Japan with Carl Anderson and Maysa, featuring the great Alphonso Johnson in Bass, Freddie Ravel on keyboards, and Michael O'Neill on Guitar. From 1998 to 2002, Jota was the drummer for Grammy award winner Al Jarreau. By 1990 he began freelancing extensively, both live and in the studio with great musicians like Al Jarreau, Gloria Gaynor, Engelbert Humperdink, Ricky Martin, Alejandro Sanz, Frank Gambale, Scott Henderson, Luis Conte, Abraham Laboriel, Mike Miller, Jean Michael Byron, Bobby Mc Ferrin, Luis Salinas, Renato Neto, Marco Mendoza, Dave Carpenter, Federico Gonzalez Peña, Sarten Asaresi, Jaime Ciero, Alejandro Lerner, Salo Loyo, Pancho Loyo, Lalo Carrillo, Jeff Nathanson, James Baker, Jimmy johnson, Hans Zermuehlen, John Guilutin, Ross Bolton, Chris Walker, Joe Turano, Larry Williams, Michael Tompson, Jeff Richman, Armand Sabal Leco, Machi Rufino, Sandra Mihanovich, Kika, Pablo de la Losa, Facundo Monty, Chris Trujillo, Andre Berri, Wade3 from the soul psychedelique, and the great sound engineer Gustavo Borner.

Jota's versatile style and solid technique has not only earned him the respect of his peers, but recognition and awards. In 1993 he was the winner of the "all around National Drummer's Poll" sponsored by "El Musiquero Magazine" and "Ferimusica". In 1994 Jota was a featured performer at the Zildjian Clinic along side other drumming great as Dennis Chambers, Alex Acuna and Will Calhoun. Jota Played 5 years with LUIS ALBERTO SPINETTA from 1987 to 1992. Recording together "Tester de Violencia", "Don Lucero" and "Fuego Gris". From 1993 to 1997 Jota played with Diego Torres, recording three records with him. Jota also played with Guitar virtuoso PAPPO and DAVID LEBON as well as with Madre Atomica. In those years he also played and recorded with Luis Salinas. He also had a trio with virtuoso bass player Guillermo Vadalá and Javier Lozano in keyboards....also he has toured and recordedan album with virtuoso guitar player Luis Salinas.

In 2011 Jota received a tribute for his 30th career aniversary at his birthplace VENADO TUERTO, the event was huge and many colleagues went there to celebrate, among others Felipe Staiti (Enanitos Verdes), Leo Genovese, Facundo Monti and the beatiful and talented jazz bass player and singer ESPERANZA SPALDING.

Later in 2013 Jota recorded a single track called "we are america" with ESPERANZA SPALDING and Leo Genovese. This track was produced by PRINCE and was only released as a video clip.

In 2015 during the Festival Internacional de Percusión TOQUE made in Tecnópolis Jota played with Leo Sujatovich and virtuoso bass player Javier Malosetti.

Recently in 2016 Jota has played with guitar legend LARRY CARLTON in Buenos Aires, Mar del Plata (Argentina) and Sao Paulo (Brasil) joined by Daniel Maza (Bass) and Gustavo "Colo" Silva (keyboards).

Since 2009 Jota is playing with the legendary rock band "ENANITOS VERDES" and currently touring with them all along USA, México, Ecuador, Perú, Chile and Spain.

Jota Morelli nació en Venado Tuerto (Santa Fe, Argentina). Jota comenzó a tocar la batería a la edad de 10 años, estudiando piano con Norberto J. Morelli y batería con Carlos Riganti y Alex Sanguinetti. A la edad de 20 años, Jota se trasladó a Buenos Aires y un par de años más tarde llamó la atención de Oscar Mediavilla que lo contrató como baterista de La Torre, que contaba con la famosa cantante Patricia Sosa. Durante su tiempo con La Torre, Jota grabó tres álbumes y realizo giras de conciertos por toda Argentina.

Después de dejar La Torre en 1985, Jota se trasladó a Nueva York, donde dió los primeros pasos en Norteamérica. Antes, después y durante su tiempo en Nueva York, Jota fue el baterista de la gran banda de fusión "Madre Atómica" con Mono Fontana, Guillermo Vadalá y Lito Epumer, grabando el álbum "Madre Atómica" con ellos en 1986 y más tarde fundando la Escuela de música "Musiquarium" en Buenos Aires, Argentina. Un aspecto destacado fue su aparición en el Teatro Wadsworth de UCLA. En un descanso de sus funciones, con LUIS ALBERTO SPINETTA en 1989, Jota viajó tocando por toda Venezuela con la estrella de rock Argentina FITO PAEZ. De 1993 a 1997, Jota grabó tres álbumes con Diego Torres, los dos primeros, albúms de oro en América Latina. Mientras estuvo con Diego Torres, Jota estuvo involucrado en varios proyectos paralelos, incluyendo grabaciones y gira con el guitarrista de Serú Giran, DAVID LEBON en 1993 y 1994; Actuando en un trío con el bajista Javier Malosetti y el tecladista Mono Fontana, y tocando con el famoso guitarrista Luis Salinas. También grabó con el virtuoso guitarrista "Sarten Asaresi" quien fue su mentor.

El estilo versátil y la técnica sólida de Jota no sólo le han valido el respeto de sus compañeros, sino también el reconocimiento y los premios. En 1993 fue ganador de la "Encuesta Nacional de Batería" patrocinada por "El Musiquero Magazine" y "Ferimusica". En 1994 Jota fue un destacado intérprete en la Clínica Zildjian junto a otros grandes bateristas como Dennis Chambers, Alex Acuna y Will Calhoun. Jota tocó 5 años con LUIS ALBERTO SPINETTA de 1987 a 1992. Grabando juntos "Tester de Violencia", "Don Lucero" y "Fuego Gris". De 1993 a 1997 Jota tocó con Diego Torres, grabando tres discos con él. Jota también tocó con el virtuoso de la guitarra PAPPO y DAVID LEBON así como con Madre Atomica. En esos años también tocó y grabó con Luis Salinas. También tuvo un trío con el virtuoso bajista Guillermo Vadalá y Javier Lozano en teclados y ha girado y grabado un álbum con el virtuoso guitarrista Luis Salinas.

En 2011 Jota recibió un homenaje por su trigésimo aniversario de carrera en su lugar de nacimiento VENADO TUERTO, el evento fue enorme y muchos colegas estuvieron presentes allí para celebrar, entre otros Felipe Staiti (Enanitos Verdes), Leo Genovese, Facundo Monty y la talentosa bajista y cantante de jazz ESPERANZA SPALDING.

Más tarde, en 2013, Jota grabó una canción llamada "We Are America" con ESPERANZA SPALDING y Leo Genovese en piano. Esta canción fue producida por PRINCE y solo fue lanzada como un videoclip.

En 2015 durante el Festival Internacional de Percusión TOQUE realizado en Tecnópolis Jota estuvo presente tocando con Leo Sujatovich y Javier Malosetti.

Recientemente en el año 2016 Jota ha tocado con el legendario guitarrista LARRY CARLTON en Buenos Aires, Mar del Plata (Argentina) y Sao Paulo (Brasil) acompañado por Daniel Maza (bajo) y Gustavo "Colo" Silva (teclados).

Desde 2009 Jota toca con la legendaria banda de rock "ENANITOS VERDES" y actualmente gira con ellos por Estados Unidos, México, Ecuador, Perú, Chile y España.
